I too had this problem trying to install 11.04.  I installed 10.10 and
had no lockup problems and have been running for hours now with no
lockups, all the time on wifi browsing the web, rsyncing large
quantities of data etc.  10.10 is quite usable once you download the
catalyst drivers from amd's site.  Just thought it might help those
troubleshooting this to know that the stock open source wifi driver with
a BCM4313 wifi card.
