Unfortunately this is happening on Feisty as well to me. I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers with a GeForce 6800 PCI-express Nvidia card. System specs are below:
Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0gHz dual core) 2GB RAM Nforce chipset I experience the exact symptoms as above, at random times, using random applications. For example, last night's lockup occurred while I was surfing around using Firefox, while another one occurred while I was listening to tunes in Amarok. The Windows side of this box works fine. I'm thinking this may be a kernel / xorg issue as it's happened to me on other distributions with this box as well, so I don't think it's Ubuntu- specific. -- Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU.
