Thanks for your bug report. I see your point, however I don't think that removing the splash screen would be a desired decision for most of the users. People responsible for OpenOffice in Ubuntu are notified of your opinion, but they might want you to discuss your request on Ubuntu discussion lists to get the opinion of the users.
