Hi Paulo, As it stands you will indeed have to update your driver for every new kernel.
However, there's a mechanism called dkms that will take care of automatically compiling and installing the driver when you update your kernel. Look for instructions here: http://djlab.com/2010/10/fixing-rtl8111-8168b-driver-debian-ubuntu/ I looked at possible related bug reports and I see no work being done to include the r8168 driver in the kernel, maybe there's some problem with Realtek's driver code or its licensing terms that preclude its inclusion in the Linux kernel. It's about the only plausible explanation for this omission. So for the time being the dkms solution is probably the safest way to go. --- Ubuntu Bug Squad volunteer triager http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814316 Title: Natty's kernel update 2.6.38-11 kills network card config To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/814316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
