Public bug reported: software-properties-gtk (and quite possibly the other frontends as well) still relies on gksu to gain administrator privileges. Implementing the use of PolicyKit to authenticate a administrative contact is the logical choice and a reasonable approach. Also, gksu is a nightmare when it comes to accessibility and doesn't work at all with security features like fingerprint readers, face recognition software or any other PAM- related, token based authenticator.
If the implementation of a PolicyKit routine proves to be a challenge too complicated to address immediately I propose the retirement of gksu in favor of gksu-polkit (works, instantly available).
