Did you actually drag clips from the media library to the timeline? 
(and yes, your descriptions of the problem are vague enough that I have
no choice but to ask those "redundant questions and answers").
In any case you should file a separate bug report if you can come up
with precise instructions for reproducing your bug or at least a
screencast of it.

Feel free to tell Ubuntu to change their update policy, or switch to a
distro that has a more relaxed update policy, such as Fedora or Arch.
