Public bug reported:

Places sidebar fails to show network mounted SMB/Samba volumes.

Testcase:
1. Open Firefox/Thunderbird (I use thunderbird for the testcase)
2. Select an email with attachment
3. Select save this attachment option
4. In nautilus save location dialog box you will not see the mounted SMB shares.

The users have save the files to local folder and then copy them to the
SMB share volume. This is lot of pain.
