Public bug reported:

When playing any sound source (from aplay all the way up to
MythTV/mplayer), I get bad stuttering and crackling audio. This includes
intermittent periods of solid crackling, and also some periods when it's
possible to distinguish the underlying sound. The audio output persists
for a fraction of a second after I stop the sound source. I'm using all
the default audio options in Natty, to which I just upgraded. However, I
replaced my motherboard at the same time so there's no single change I
can identify as the most likely culprit.
