it is attached
2) Run the following commands and paste the output here:
$ testparm -s --parameter-name='disable netbios' 2>/dev/null
$ echo $?
and
$ install -o root -g root -m 755 -d /var/run/samba
$ echo $?
This is all what I do on my console (ccl@ccl-HP-Pavilion-dv6-Notebook-PC
is my user)

at the very start before executing waht you asked I opened a copy of your mail
from Ubuntu (I have at the moment a dual boot notebook and I save my mail on
the Windows part) and had a new bug recorded as Bug 820785.
I believe that the two bugs are linked.
