pandoc 1.8.1.1-1ubuntu2 is now in Oneiric Ocelot (the development
version of Ubuntu, to be released as Ubuntu 11.10 in October). See
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pandoc.

The Ubuntu project's policy is to make release-specific updates
available to fix security vulnerabilities and severe stability/usability
bugs, but not to incorporate newer upstream versions into stable
releases (unless they only have those kinds of changes), and not to
provide new features. This maximizes stability, reliability, and
predictability. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for
details. Therefore, pandoc will not be updated to version 1.8.1.1 in
Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal or any earlier Ubuntu releases. However, if
any security vulnerabilities, or severe stability/usability bugs, have
been fixed in pandoc 1.8.1.1, then an update to pandoc in supported
Ubuntu releases should be released, incorporating just those fixes. If
you believe that is the case, please file a new bug report against
pandoc in Ubuntu, and provide details about the bugs that have been
fixed.

Separately, users may enable backports repositories that do provide new
versions of software, including new features and significant changes in
interface and functionality. Since pandoc 1.8.1.1 is now in Oneiric, it
may qualify for incorporation into the lucid-backports, maverick-
backports, and/or natty-backports repositories. For more information on
this, including information about how to request backporting, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports. Please search first
to see if a request has already been made, before submitting one
yourself.
