The problem resurrected after I was playing around with WWAN card, I guess it 
was due to enabling and disabling the card in the bios.
I was again able to fix it by restoring my pre-installed Windows image, and 
then restoring my Ubuntu image.

@owang: I have like yourself tried all solutions I could find on the
web, and nothing works. I have absolutely no idea how the Windows
restore fixes the problem. (is Windows able to write some changes to the
bios??)
