** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-image-3.0-0-generic-pae Beginning with the installation of the version 3.0 kernels, network- manager-gnome's nm-applet began repeatedly connecting and disconnecting from wireless networks. The behavior is similar to what would be observed if all wireless connections were barely strong enough to connect and too weak to stay connected. Network-manager gnome's nm-applet still reports correct signal strengh, but fails to stay connected. This occurs without regard for rather Unity or gnome-shell is running at the time. At first I blamed network-manager-gnome, only to find that it hadn't changes, nor had the other networking programs. Suspecting new kernel drivers, I decided to try a reboot with the previous kernel, and was back online. Booting from kernel 2.6.39-3-generic-pae instead of a 3.0 kernel stops the problem and wireless networks then remain connected and behave normally. Either the wireless driver in the kernel has a problem or it's interface with network-manager-gnome changed enough to require changes in that package, no idea which. No problems with the wired connections used by my second video-editing computer downtown, both video editors being AMD Phenom II x4/785 chipset machines with 4GB ram, hence the pae kernels used all all copies of my OS install. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 1 netbook with the Intel Atom N450 and associated chipset. The pae kernels are used because this machine downloads all packages bound for the offline video editing comp0uter with 4GB of ram. This bug is still present with linux-image-3.0-1-generic-pae, just tested it today + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + AplayDevices: + **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: Error: command ['fuser', '-v', '/dev/snd/by-path', '/dev/snd/controlC0', '/dev/snd/hwC0D0', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D0c', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p', '/dev/snd/seq', '/dev/snd/timer'] failed with exit code 1: + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0x58200000 irq 44' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC272X' + Components : 'HDA:10ec0272,10250349,00100001' + Controls : 18 + Simple ctrls : 11 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 + HibernationDevice: + RESUME=/dev/mapper/vg2-swap + #RESUME=UUID=5d09cd8b-61a7-4e86-94f8-c85a406217d7 + IwConfig: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + MachineType: Acer AO532h + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=C:en_US:en + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=C + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.0.0-8-generic-pae root=/dev/mapper/vg2-root ro quiet splash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-8.10-generic-pae 3.0.1 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.0.0-8-generic-pae N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.0.0-8-generic-pae N/A + linux-firmware 1.59 + RfKill: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Tags: oneiric running-unity + UdevDb: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Uname: Linux 3.0.0-8-generic-pae i686 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2010-05-31 (436 days ago) + UserAsoundrc: + # ALSA library configuration file + + # Include settings that are under the control of asoundconf(1). + # (To disable these settings, comment out this line.) + </home/luke/.asoundrc.asoundconf> + UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse lpadmin netdev plugdev pulse pulse-access rtkit sambashare tape video + WpaSupplicantLog: + + dmi.bios.date: 01/14/2010 + dmi.bios.vendor: Acer + dmi.bios.version: V1.15 + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: AO532h + dmi.board.vendor: Acer + dmi.board.version: V1.15 + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer + dmi.chassis.version: V1.15 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAcer:bvrV1.15:bd01/14/2010:svnAcer:pnAO532h:pvrV1.15:rvnAcer:rnAO532h:rvrV1.15:cvnAcer:ct10:cvrV1.15: + dmi.product.name: AO532h + dmi.product.version: V1.15 + dmi.sys.vendor: Acer ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799290/+attachment/2269711/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799290 Title: wireless repeatedly connects and disconnects with kernel 3.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/799290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
