I have noticed the same problem in beagle 0.2.16.3 running on ubuntu feisty, beagle-helper process loaded a lot of ram. After that, and maybe the "key" of my problem (and hope yours too!) is to exclude the TEMP directory of ed2k files (amule, mldonkey, etc.) in beagle indexing preferences. Then cpu charge is normal.
