  KDE applications like amarok or digikam use the regular notification
  system of the DE (notifyosd or xfce-notifyd) as long as libnotify4 is
  not installed. If libnotify4 is installed, they use another notification
  system (different theme, different position), presumably the KDE
  notification system or what is left of it in non-KDE DEs.
