Public bug reported:

After upgrading from linux-image-2.6.38-8-server to linux-
image-2.6.38-10-server one of our fileservers wouldn't come up after the
next reboot.

I've attached a "screenshot" of the console output.

Transcription (of the relevant parts):
ata13.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
ata13.00: disabled
scsci_alloc_sdev: Allocation failure during SCSI scanning, some SCSI devices
might not be configured
ata14.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
ata14.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
ata14: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata14.00: limiting speed to UDMA7:PIO5
ata14.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
ata14.00: disabled
scsci_alloc_sdev: Allocation failure during SCSI scanning, some SCSI devices
might not be configured

Selecting the older 2.6.38-8 kernel at the grub prompt allows the server to
boot normally.
2.6.38-11 shows the same problem as -10.

This server has 6 disks (2x Seagate ST3250318AS, 4x Hitachi HDS5C302)
all connected via a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8 Port SAS/SATA Controller.
The default mvsas kernel module is used.
