** Description changed: I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 from the downloadable ISO image. It would not connect to my WPA-secured wireless network via my USB wireless adapter, which uses the Ralink RT2870 chipset. The syslog indicates that although authentication succeeded, there was some kind of problem with acquiring an IP address through DHCP. I have solved this by blacklisting the rt2800usb module. (i.e. I appended the line 'blacklist rt2800usb' to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, and rebooted.) I can now connect to the network. I have no idea why this works, but I tried it in desperation after trawling through numerous other bug/problem reports, most of which related to older Ubuntu versions, and noticing it as one of the simpler suggestions put forward. - I do think that a Ubuntu distribution should just work 'out of the box'. - It failed badly in this case. This chipset has been around for a good - while now (years, that is). Having spent hours working on this, I have - to say I would have given up on Ubuntu long ago, had I not been - fortunate enough to be IT-literate. Your users deserve better. + I do think that a Ubuntu distribution should just work 'out of the box'. It failed badly in this case. This chipset has been around for a good while now (years, that is).
