** Description changed: after today updates I'm only able to use xserver in fail safe mode. I - think there were some xserver updates and they caused the problem. I'm - using ATI proprietary drivers . + think the xserver-common and xserver-core updates caused the problem. + I'm using ATI proprietary drivers . using synaptic to force the version + of xserver-common and sxerver-core improves the X failsafe resolution + but the normal boot halts just before X login same as before.
