Have you tried this? 1) open a terminal and type "alsamixer" (without quotes), press Enter. 2) The Alsa Mixer will appear, press F4 and go (with arrows) to the Capture slide on the right. 3) keep pressed Z until the left slide is at 0 then keep pressed E until the right slide is at 100. 4) Try to record through the integrated microphone.
A Graphical alternative is to use the Pulse Audio Control (pavucontrol) and do the same thing. You have to keep the right and left channels unsynchronized.
