Public bug reported:

#760015 is said to be fixed with kernel 2.6.38.10 (but I never tried
that) but appears to have regressed in 2.6.38-11

I have worked around the problem by copying /etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections/MySSID from 10.10 (kernel 2.6.32-33), where autoconnect
worked (eventually), to 11.04. (Note that adding autoconnect=true to the
11.04 version of this file did not fix the problem.)
