I said earlier that I don't see the problem on a system that was
upgraded from Edgy to Feisty. This system doesn't hang not because it
was upgraded instead of a clean install, but rather because it has more
RAM (3GB)

There is still a major performance issue when kdvi attempts to render
graphics in my document.  Attached is a system monitor screenshot
showing huge rises in the amount of used RAM which coincide with the gs
process.
