Hi Brian,
It could be that it was a drive problem. At the time I was using ubuntu on a
live usb stick.
Those problems have disappeared when switching to Ubuntu via the  Wubi
installer.
I'm now happily running Ubuntu 11.04 alongside windows and all those issues are
gone.
In fact, Wubi is the best way to try out Ubuntu, not the live usb stick, for me.

Subject: [Bug 795207] Re: package udev 162-2.2 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

There seem to be some issues with your installation of Ubuntu based off
the following messages in dmesg:

[  427.050819] aufs au_xino_do_write:378:python[4582]: I/O Error, write failed
(4294967268)
[  427.050824] aufs au_xino_write:414:python[4582]: I/O Error, write failed (-5)

As far as I can tell these are problems reading and writing to your Live
Media.  Is the drive that you are running Ubuntu off of okay?  Thanks in
advance.
