Well, rest assured that I didn't install them manually so they've must been installed with the package somewhere along the road (I haven't done a clean install since Maverick). Reinstalling the plymouth package doesn't however restore this symlink so I'm almost sure that it happened during update from natty to oneiric alpha. If however current updates don't cause this then you may feel free to mark this one as invalid.
