This could be the same as #664366 (in firebird2.5). Maybe try adding 'db_stop' before the final 'exit 0' in /var/lib/dpkg/info/firebird2.1-classic.config (borrowed from version 2.1.4.18393-0.ds2-6, currently in Debian/sid)?
