i've also got a dell inspiron 1501 with a dell wireless 1490 card. it doesn't work with the version of bcm43xx provided with feisty, but you can install the latest standalone version of bcm43xx from ftp://lwfinger.dynalias.org/patches/bcm43xx-softmac-sa.tar.bz2 . this works for me on feisty amd64.
