Why assume this is Pidgin-specific? Shouldn't all packages be built with
build-hardening enabled?

And indeed. looking at /proc/$pid/maps for two bash processes on 11.04
shows that the libraries, heap, and stack are randomized but the bash
image itself is the same both times.

So, I'd suspect this problem is not limited to Pidgin, and you should
re-open the bug, and re-ensure that all programs are built with PIE all
the time.
