Can you give me more detail on the changes you had to do to your grub and init
configuration to get the boot messages to display?
That should make it easier to replicate your current environment.
Also, it'd be great if you could try with Oneiric beta2 as it includes a
reworked friendly-recovery that's started in a different way than the
old one and so might not be affected by that bug anymore.
