The kernel panic happens after the machines has been running for a
while. Sometimes just a few hours, sometimes a several days. Don't know
how to trigger the crash.

The machines have special boot setup. We use a small handcrafted Linux
distro for booting Ubuntu via kexec. Maybe some cruft is left from this
boot kernel?
