Public bug reported: I am running Cups on a Lucid server, with etckeeper installed. Just about every night, I get an email from the cron job for etckeeper because the printers.conf and printers.conf.O files have changed. This is because Cups keeps state information about the printers in this file, instead of under /var (where it is supposed to go).
The "State" and "StateTime" lines in that file look like the most glaring offenders, but there may be others. That kind of information should be kept under /var. ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862534 Title: Cups writes state information under /etc (in "printers.conf") To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/862534/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
