  This Inspiron 1420 appeared to freeze with a black screen tonight after
  resuming from suspend.
  
  The machine was unpingable over wireless.  I connected an ethernet to
  try pinging on eth0, but no response there either.  However, plugging in
  the ethernet was enough to "wake" the screen to show the error in the
  attached photo.
  
  Other details of possible relevance, my file server (NFS3 mount) had a
  couple hiccups and had to be restarted, which happened while the laptop
  was sleeping.
