You have been given bad advice. They meant "sudo dpkg --configure -a" or "sudo apt-get -f install". But this is not a user support channel... so I'm closing this bug report since it doesn't contain any useful bug.
Concerning the "dpkg-mainscript-helper: error: couldn't identify the package" error message, it's a bug in debconf that's already reported. ** Changed in: dpkg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863199 Title: Update Manager does not update-shows error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/863199/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
