Hi!

I'm happy to say that this particular bug is a thing of the past since I now
run Ubuntu 11.4. On all my machines.

I always try to support Ubuntu and free software in general when ever
possible - which means most of the time.

However, I must say that I regret changing to 11.4 since there are so many
things that seem to be non-ergonomical, or simply do not work right.

I am talking from the point of view of a light desktop user. On my EEEpc
1201N, the sound just won't work right, despite intense hours spent trying
and trying. The hotkeys don't work at all. 1/2 the time the boot parameters
get re-written by Ubuntu and need to be manually reset on boot-up. Wifi
works most of the time, but not always, often not detecting the most
powerful wifi, i.e. my own.

I really feel let-down by 11.4. In the days of 10.4 I used to tell all my
Windows using friends that Ubuntu was as good or better than MS, but I can
no longer honestly tell them that. So when people ask me what to do, I am at
a loss. Windows? Mac? Both are against free and open source and both are
evil in my eyes. Debian, or other Linuxs are even less human friendly than
Ubuntu and have less user-base for support....

I read on some IT blog that 11.4 seems like it was made by children playing
in their corner with no idea what the real users do with their systems or
want from it. I must say, that I can see how someone could have that
opinion.

Despite all these downsides, I am still pushing at work for a Ubuntu
deployment!

In conclusion, I thank you for your concern for my little bug report and I
hope that you and the Canonical team (some of whom I met in the London
office last summer) will do a little more usability testing before the next
release.

I am always available to help in any way I can - I am quite a good
programmer, with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence....

With my greatest respect for your work,
Ciao,
Bob Wigetman
