** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 11.4 64 bit
  Laptop Toshiba Portege R700  with integrated Intel graphics.
  Bug: When I unplug the external monitor,  my laptop screen starts to show 
vertical rainbow-coloured stripes.  The way to fix it is to plug the external 
monitor back and unplug it again.  
  A very strange bug...
