** Description changed:

When investigating an unrelated issue, I noticed that ALSA init scripts
- complained about failing to restore volumes upon bootup, exciting with
- an error 19. After adding snd_cs5535audio to /etc/initramfs.d/modules
- and doing dpkg-reconfigure, then rebooting, the ALSA init script stopped
+ complained about failing to restore volumes upon bootup, exiting with an
+ error 19. After adding snd_cs5535audio to /etc/initramfs.d/modules and
+ doing dpkg-reconfigure, then rebooting, the ALSA init script stopped
complaining. However, tons of new ALSA errors appeared in dmesg, as seen
in the attachment to this bug. Give the plethora of "unknown symbols"
I'm wondering, could this module be in need of an upgrade to recent ALSA
  features?
