Thanks for your workaround, using that now.

I still think it's wrong to assume that one of these three has to exist on a 
system:
- auto eth0 and eth0 always plugged in
- network-manager installed
- boot time delayed by two minutes.

And no, I won't install network-manager even if it doesn't depend on X.
