This is still somewhat of an issue in 11.10 on the E6510. The touchpad is not quite as twitchy as it was in 11.04, BUT it's still almost useless... sliding my finger up causes the mouse to rocket to the top of the screen, while sliding down causes the mouse to do almost nothing.
