@John Miller I've reopened https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/842560 which was marked as a duplicate of this udev bug (as I originally mentioned the firmware issue in the description, but it was unrelated), now that this udev problem is sorted the firmware issue can be looked at in more detail.
