in case anyone is having issues where localhost is working but localhost virtual hosts are not, (ie site.localhost), with offline mode off, I had to set network.dns.disableIPv6 back to its default value of false to fix the virtual host problem. http://tristram.squarespace.com/home/2011/6/3/firefox-ignoring-etchosts-when-dns-not-available.html
