I've Ubuntu 11.10 (64bit version) and I was suffering the same bug here. I've removed Skype 64bit (which I downloaded from Skype website) and installed the package skype:i386 2.2.0.35-0oneiric2 from Software Center. Now Skype doesn't run at all..
