Some more information from my side. My webcam is external, connected via USB; it has a LED which is activated when the device is operating. During Ubuntu boot (when the Ubuntu logo is shown, with progress bar on purple background) the LED is on, as it was with 11.04. The LED goes off when the User selector (lightDM in my case) comes up. Afterwards, the cam is not recognized anymore.
