The system with the relevant hardware in currently used in as a production machine. I will be able to test the upstream kernel, but I need some time to prepare another machine to take over the production role during the testing. Also I need to find some time to do the actual testing since it's a bit busy now. So it's possible it can take a few weeks before I can post the results of the test you describe. I'm glad someone is still looking at this bug though :)
For the people who are looking for a workaround in the meantime: You can disable nouveau on the first boot after your Ubuntu is installed by applying the workaround in comment #19.
