Perhaps my previous note oversimplified matters. I noted this message in .xsession-errors after failed login:
compiz (unityshell) - Error: GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object not supported But unity_support_test when run later does show "GL vertex buffer object" as I noted above. It seems that something causes the necessary OpenGL extension to get loaded some time after compiz first tries to start. glxinfo run from a terminal does show the extension, but run from ~/.gnomerc it shows a bunch of extensions in ~/.xsession-errors but GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object isn't one of them. What can we do to make the extension get loaded in time, or delay compiz start until it is loaded? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876879 Title: Lost Launcher and upper Task Bar (Unity3D on 11.10) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/876879/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
