While the situation is different, I believe the underlying issue is the
same. The problem in all three cases could have been avoided if user
consent was asked before grub was installed and the MBR overridden. I
don't believe its possible for the installer to detect an encrypted
operating system, as the goal of disk encryption is often to be able to
prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there is no operating system/files
present. Therefore, the installer should always ask before overwriting
the MBR, as the installer cannot be expected to be able to correctly
identify all other operating systems on the hard drive, nor the presence
of custom bootloading setups on the MBR. I'm just trying to find the
root problem and consolidate the bugs accordingly, but if you still
disagree and think that this should be separate from bug 882252, feel
free to remove the duplicate tags, or ask me and I'll return them to
their previous states, with bug 882252 being separate and this being
linked to the other disk encryption bug.
