Seems like there's only the way to improve it by setting the parameter
of key "com.canonical.indicator.datetime.time-format" to "custom" (in
dconf editor), and the parameter of key
"com.canonical.indicator.datetime.custom-time-format" to preffered
format (according to strftime function. see man strftime). For example
to ''%a, %d %b %H:%M".
