uname -a output indicates this system is running the stock 32-bit kernel
(non-PAE). This is why the system has access to only (and exactly) 3.0
GB of RAM.

There are two ways for the system to see (and fully take advantage of )
your 4 GB of RAM:

1- Install linux-generic-pae
2- Reinstall the system using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu.

Still, the checkbox test seems to be doing the right thing by reporting
the amount of memory available to the system (3GB).
