I'm now posting from the other boot, the "clean" install. Here the sound is
still choppy, but the volume works and "sound settings" shows the sound card in
all the tabs.
I'm uploading again the apport details to see if there are obvious differences.

Cristian

** Description changed:

Installed 11.10 on two systems - a desktop and a laptop. On the desktop the
sound is OK, while on the laptop, I get horrible lags and skips on all audio.
If playing a movie and the soundcard is enabled, the video becomes choppy too.
Tried both an upgraded system (from 11.04) and a clean install, same problem.

The sound is *always* choppy, I get bursts of sound for about 1/2 second
then maybe 1 second of silence. The "bursts of sound" appear to come in
 random order, too.

The whole system is totally unable to perform any multimedia task as is
now (i.e. playing music, playing videos, playing games).

Sound card is a n ExpressCard card:
cristian@cristian-laptop:~$ lspci | grep Audio
06:00.0 PCI bridge: Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG PCI to
PCIe Bridge
07:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG
I attached the pulseaudio log taken during a choppy audio playback.

 Restricted drivers in use:
 Broadcom STA wireless driver,
 nVidia accelerated graphics driver.

If any further info is needed I'll post here.
