The error in your log is:

> Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
> Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ...

> Could not find /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Would you like
/boot/grub/menu.lst generated for you? (y/N) n

> Not creating /boot/grub/menu.lst as you wish

> User postinst hook script [/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 1

This is not a bug in Ubuntu, but a misconfiguration on your system. You
have removed grub2, the default bootloader installed by Ubuntu, in favor
of grub1 and you have not configured it for use.

To correct this problem, it is recommended that you reinstall grub2 by
running the following command from a terminal:

  sudo apt-get install grub-pc

** Changed in: grub (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
