I am also experiencing this bug after upgrading from 10.04 to 11.10. In 10.04 (fresh install) I did not had any problems, it started right after upgrading. Tried all configs above, (and associate=0 was already the default). Perhaps most people here upgraded their laptops and this became quiet?
