This bug affects me as well. I cannot shutdown from the menus, most of the time I return to the login screen. Then from the login screen if I try to shutdown, then there is an ugly Gnome confirmation dialog which asks 'Do you want to shutdown or restart ?'. Pressing any of the buttons does nothing.
I tried 'sudo halt' and it hang the computer on the shutdown. I looked also in .xsessionerror, and there are those errors. My user has sudo rights, so I don't understand where the Authorization error is coming from.
