Thanks Emanuel Rietveld. I've just tested it. It works for gedit yet NOT for other ones like LibreOffice and Pidgin. I don't have .bash_profile so added 'unset IBUS_ENABLE_SYNC_MODE' to the $HOME/.bashrc file.
