Hello, This ended up being RAM issue. After days of trial with different HDD and optical drives it came up to be a memory problem which is really tough to pinpoint especially when everything points to HDD/DVD issue. After lots of unsuccessful and couple of successful installations the randomness of the problem ie failing during installation and black screen with blanking cursor on boot up, made me think it might be RAM problem. I removed one stick of the 2x2GB G.Skill sticks I had on board and tried to reinstall again. All went smoothly this time.
Then I went into BIOS and manually set the memory voltage and latency which were all wrongly auto set. The problem is that the pair of the G.Skill sticks I used where on the motherboard support list, literally same type and module number, which sidetracked me from looking into this earlier. Thanks to all who dedicated some time to look into this.
